Right, already got the lecture I should've just left her to fend for herself when he's talking about fucking her bloody and raw. I'll do that next time as I've been told that's exactly how mature and rational adults behave themselves, they let a little girl receive insults like that and fend for her own fucking self. I really don't need it again, thanks. I'm well informed. This old dog can certainly learn a new trick or two.

He was trying to pick a fight, Sirius, so he pushed your buttons. You had a right to be angry, and even a right to defend her; you're very protective of her, it's perfectly understandable. But I think ignoring him, maybe even making the entry so he would be unable to see it and reply, would have been a better way to handle it. I'm not going to lecture you, though, so I won't say anything more.

Problem with Snape goes well beyond house rivalries. It didn't have a thing to do with Gryffindor versus Slytherin when he called you a Mudblood. It had everything to do with blood purity. It didn't have a thing to do with Gryffindor versus Slytherin when he joined Voldemort. It had everything to do with his insane and narrow-minded views on the world. I'd appreciate you not trivialising the concerns down to childish house rivalries.

Of course I should be thinking that some fucking arse will waltz in and start insulting Dora in my journal and I should lock it away from everyone. I should start hiding my life and myself from them, shouldn't I? Wouldn't want to have to face them head on and confront them. Oh no, I should hide it all away.

That really how you feel? Then what're you doing with the Order, then?

I know he's a Death Eater. I'm not trying to trivialise anything. But you and I both know that you were treating him the same way long before he declared his loyalties.

I never said that. You shouldn't have to hide things just to avoid speaking with them, but confronting them is exactly what they want. And you did attack his sister, you know.

I've been treating him that way because he's a bigoted arse that reminds me of my family. Saw it from the first time I met the little fuck.

Confronting them is what is needed. If we all just sit back, they'll be controlling the Ministry and we'll all be dead. Bad enough that half of that lot are back at the Ministry with their old jobs.

Fine.

Severus was the one who created that hex James used on him. About a week before that day, he showed it to me. It wasn't the only spell he'd made, so I was impressed. And I kind of wanted to try it myself, so I used it on Mary in our room, but I didn't tell her who made it. I don't know which of the other girls showed you and James, but I didn't even know he knew it until then.

I'm not excusing him, Sirius, but he thought I had gone to James with the spell. He thought I betrayed him. And if I had, he would have had every reason to be angry with me.

It's different because that was a misunderstanding and didn't become a fight until I refused to listen to his apologies.

Not to my face, he didn't. Insulting my sister only made me angry with him, and he knew that, so regardless of what he believed, he chose not to do it while I was around.

Yes, you can control that, and that is what separates you from them. They choose not to control themselves, and they don't care who they hurt in the process. We are different, Sirius. We care.
